Macao Liaison Office Delegation Visits BNU Zhuhai


A delegation of 34 officials led by Tang Lijun, Deputy Director of the General Office of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., visited Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai). Sun Hongpei, Member of the University Council of BNU, Vice President of BNU, and Director of the Administrative Committee, BNU Zhuhai, met with the guests. Both sides held in-depth discussions on cooperation in Zhuhai-Macao education, training for Macao public officials, and development of young officials. Representatives from relevant functional departments of BNU Zhuhai, young administrators, and faculty member representatives attended the meeting.

BNU BABS Delegation Visits Russia, Opening New Chapter in Educational Cooperation

At the invitation of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), a delegation from the Bay Area International Business School (BABS), Beijing Normal University (BNU), comprising Dean Kong Ying, Assistant Dean Cui Chuantao, and Professor Xie Yi, made a three-day academic visit to RANEPA. The visit aimed to deepen Sino-Russian cooperation in education, explore new pathways for international academic exchange, and lay a solid foundation for multifaceted collaboration. BNU SFD Visits Japan for Artistic Place-Based Innovation Program


The "Future Design Artistic Place-Based Innovation Program," hosted by the BNU School of Future Design (SFD), was successfully held in Japan. Centered on the theme "Art Empowerment,Design-Driven Innovation, and Regional Co-Development," the program comprised three modules: high-level Sino-Japanese academic exchange, research on international cultural events and local art festivals, and visits to world-renowned architectural sites. It created a high-caliber international platform for future design exchange, exploring innovative approaches to integrate art and design disciplines with regional sustainable development, thereby providing a cross-cultural model for "New Liberal Arts" education in the new era.

Head of UNDRR Asia-Pacific Office Visits School of National Safety and Emergency Management

Marco Toscano-Rivalta, Head of Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), visited the School of National Safety and Emergency Management at BNU. He was accompanied by Professor Yang Saini, Executive Director of the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) programme. ACFTC Liaison Department Director Ren Hui and His Delegation Visit BNU Zhuhai

Ren Hui, Director of the Liaison Department of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots (ACFTC), led a research delegation to Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai) for an exchange visit. Faculty of Arts and Sciences Delegation Visits Hong Kong Universities for Exchange


To further deepen exchanges among higher education institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and promote high-quality development of education, a delegation from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, led by Dean Zhong Jiayong, made a three-day exchange visit to the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The visit focused on talent cultivation, academic exchanges, young faculty development, and talent recruitment, opening a new chapter for in-depth cooperation with Hong Kong universities.

11th Zhuhai-Taiwan Universities Cultural Exchange Camp & BNU Zhuhai Environmental Ecology and Green Development Experience Camp Inaugurated


The 11th Zhuhai-Taiwan Universities Cultural Exchange Camp & BNU Zhuhai Environmental Ecology and Green Development Experience Camp (hereafter referred to as "the Exchange Camp") commenced formally at BNU Zhuhai. Guided by the Zhuhai Association for Economic and Cultural Exchange Across the Taiwan Strait, and co-hosted by BNU Zhuhai and the Zhuhai Aerospace Land, the opening ceremony was attended by representatives from relevant municipal and district departments, faculty and students from Zhuhai-based universities, and a delegation of teachers and students from universities in Taiwan.

BNU Research Team Investigated National Security Education Practices in Macao SAR Universities and Schools


Seventeen faculty and students from the School of National Safety and Emergency Management and School of Systems Science of Beijing Normal University formed a research team that visited the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) for an in-depth survey of national security education at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. The team visited multiple representative sites including the Hengqin Port, educational institutions at all levels, patriotic education bases, and youth service organizations. Employing methodologies such as on-site interviews, expert seminars, and online/offline data collection, the research team comprehensively and systematically assessed the current practices, distinctive approaches, and implementation outcomes of national security education in Macao SAR universities and schools, collecting substantial first-hand data for subsequent research and practice.

Peking University Yenching Academy Delegation Visits BNU Zhuhai


A delegation from Yenching Academy of Peking University visited BNU Zhuhai. Over 30 international faculty and student representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Brazil, Mexico and other countries toured the "Technology-Enabled Palace Museum Chromatography" exhibition hall and participated in immersive workshops on intangible cultural heritage crafts. Yu Gang Attends SC COP-12 and Delivers Presentation


The 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention(BC COP-17), the 12th meeting of the Conference to the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention(RC COP-12), and the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parities to the Stockholm Convention (SC COP-12) convened in Geneva, Switzerland. Over 1,700 representatives attended, including delegates from 182 Parties and 175 observers of non-Parties, international organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Yu Gang, Director of the Expert Committee of the National Coordination Group (NCG) for the Implementation of the Stockholm Convention and the NCG for the Implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, and Dean of the Advanced Interdisciplinary Institute of Environment and Ecology, Beijing Normal University, participated in SC COP-12 as a member of the Chinese Government Delegation.

Faculty Member of BRS Attends and Delivers Report at the 2025 Meeting of the Advisory Council of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation


The 2025 Meeting of the Advisory Council of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. The meeting featured in-depth discussions on topics including Belt and Road international cooperation, trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, and cooperation in the digital economy and artificial intelligence. Liu Qian, Vice Dean of Belt and Road School(BRS) at Beijing Normal University, attended the meeting and delivered a presentation on the achievements, challenges, and development prospects of Belt and Road digital economy cooperation.

U.S. NAS Member Prof. Liu Jun Invited to Deliver an Academic presentation at Faculty of Arts and Sciences Interdisciplinary Forum

The second lecture of the “Interdisciplinary Forum” organized by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was successfully held at BNU Zhuhai. Prof. Liu Jun, Member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and Director of Preparatory and Construction Committee of the Department of Statistics and Data Science at Tsinghua University, was invited to deliver an academic presentation titled “The Development of AI from a Monte Carlo Perspective.” The forum was initiated and hosted by Prof. Zhu Lixing from the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, attracting over 100 faculty members and students from within and outside the university.

Associate Prof. Ni Qiao’s Research Group from the Chemistry Department of Faculty of Arts and Sciences Achieve Breakthrough in Subzero Temperature Operation of Aqueous Zn Metal Batteries

Associate Prof. Ni Qiao’s research group from the Chemistry Department of Faculty of Arts and Sciences has published a study entitled “Subzero Temperature Operation of Aqueous Zn Metal Batteries by Tailoring Electrolyte Solvation Structure” in ACS Energy Letters (CAS Q1 Top Journal, IF:19.5). Ni Qiao is the first author, with Prof. Kisuk Kang from Seoul National University as corresponding author. Beijing Normal University is the primary affiliation of the article, with collaborating institutions including Seoul National University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Khon Kaen University (Thailand), and Fuzhou University. This work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China Science Fund Program for Excellent Young Scientists and Guangdong Natural Science Foundation General Program.

Chemistry Department of Faculty of Arts and Sciences Overturns Academic Consensus on Isodimorphic Co-crystallization of Degradable Polyesters

Wang Kaojin from Prof. Zhu Xiaoxia’s research team, Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Center for Advanced Materials Research, in collaboration with Professor Alejandro J. Müller of the University of the Basque Country (Spain), has published research overturning the academic consensus on cocrystallization of biodegradable polyesters. Their paper "The Hidden Isodimorphic Crystallization of Poly(ε-caprolactone-ran-ω-pentadecalactone) Copolymers" was published in Biomacromolecules, a leading polymer journal.

Ng How Yong’s Research Team Publish Paper in Water Research:

Research by Ng How Yong’s Research Team entitled "Sustainable High-Flux Ceramic Membrane Operations for Seawater Pretreatment under Diverse Algal Bloom Intensities" has been accepted by Water Research, a top-tier journal in water science. The study demonstrates that the ICF-UF system can achieve stable 200 LMH high-flux operation without air flotation, significantly exceeding conventional desalination plant performance andproviding an effective solution for seawater pretreatment under diverse algal bloom intensities.

ICSA China Conference 2025 Successfully Held at BNU Zhuhai


The International Chinese Statistical Association (ICSA) China Conference 2025 was grandly convened at BNU Zhuhai. Hosted by ICSA and co-organized by Faculty of Arts and Sciences and School of Statistics of BNU, the event attracted over 600 distinguished scholars, experts, and academics in statistics from across the globe, including the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, France and so on, gathering in a shared celebration of scholarship. IACCS Predicts Functional Neural Circuits in Caenorhabditis elegans Based on Overlapping Community Detection

A collaborative research team led by Research Fellow Liu He from the International Academic Center for Complex Systems (IACCS) at the Advanced Institute of Natural Sciences and the School of Systems Science, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, BNU, together with Prof. Liu Qiang from the Department of Neuroscience at City University of Hong Kong, has published a paper titled “Prediction of functional neural circuits in caenorhabditis elegans based on overlapping community detection” in the authoritative international journal Neural Networks.

IACCS Officially Release "2025 WURA/CURA Rankings"

Emerging Contaminants, a Collaborative Journal of BNU Zhuhai and KeAi, Sees Rising Influence


Clarivate Analytics released the 2024 Journal Citation Reports (JCR), in which Emerging Contaminants—a collaborative journal between Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai) and KeAi—saw its Impact Factor rise to 6.9. The journal now ranks in the Q1 zone of the ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES category, positioned 50th out of 374 journals, marking a significant rise of 24 places compared to the previous year.

Ion Beam Lab Team Wins Gold at Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions


At the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva opened in Geneva, Switzerland, a project titled "Key Technology and Equipment for Dual-Pulse Preparation of Large-Area, Ultra-Thick, High-Strength and Tough Diamond-Like Carbon Films," developed by Prof. Liao Bin's team from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, stood out from more than 1,000 innovations from 40 countries and regions worldwide to win the exhibition’s Gold Medal.

BNU Zhuhai Students Shine at Mathematical Contest in Modeling 2025


192 students forming 64 teams from 15 disciplines organized by the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, BNU Zhuhai, participated in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling/Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling 2025 (MCM/ICM). The delegation attained outstanding results: 3 Finalist Awards (F Award), 5 Meritorious Winner Awards (M Award), and 30 Honorable Mention Awards (H Award), yielding an award rate of 59%. This marks the best performance since BNU Zhuhai's participation in the competition.

BNU Zhuhai Hosts Dragon Boat Festival Cultural Experience Activity


On May 24, nearly 20 international, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan scholars of BNU Zhuhai visited Doumen for the Dragon Boat Festival cultural experience activity. Supported by the Zhuhai Foreign Affairs Office and the Doumen District Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau, the “Ancient Charm, Modern Water Town”-themed activity featured dragon race viewing, intangible cultural heritage experiences, and ancient village tours, allowing participants to appreciate the charm of Lingnan culture.

The closing performance of the 5th Valley Arts Festival illuminated the Xiangshan Culture and Arts Center. As a featured segment, the meticulously arranged traditional cultural program Going Up Vernal Hills, performed by faculty and students of Phoenix School, captivated the audience with its unique artistic expression and profound cultural depth, earning thunderous applause. The piece was performed by 27 faculty and students, including international representatives from Russia, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, Lebanon, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Rwanda, and Lesotho, vividly demonstrating the fruitful outcomes of BNU's internationalization efforts.

The Phoenix School (PHS) 2025 Graduation Symposium was solemnly held at the Phoenix Space, Building 14, Yuehua Residential Area. Participants included Chen Xi, Dean of PHS, Qiu Yue, Deputy Director of International Office, and Liu Lanmin, Chair of the Department of International Chinese Language Education. The symposium was presided over by He Jiangkun, Associate Dean of Phoenix School.
