Delegation of Saint Mary's University Visits BNU Zhuhai


On April 30, 2025, a delegation led by Dr. Robert Summerby-Murray, President of Saint Mary's University in Canada, visited BNU Zhuhai. Wei Wei, Vice Chairman of the University Council of BNU and Chairperson of the University Council of BNU Zhuhai, met with the visiting delegation and held a discussion. Delegation of University of Strathclyde Visits BNU Zhuhai 


A delegation led by Professor Ian Rivers, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, visited College of Education for the Future. Zhang Kai, Deputy Director of the University Affairs Committee and Party Secretary of College of Education for the Future, met with Professor Ian Rivers and his team and had in-depth discussions on cooperation in areas such as discipline construction, talent cultivation, and scientific research innovation. Prof. Martin Vestergaard of University of Cambridge Visits Faculty of Arts and Sciences

College Alumnus Ma Jian Joined Chinese Expert Team in Myanmar for Disaster Investigation and Loss Assessment


On March 28, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck Myanmar, causing significant casualties and property losses and drawing widespread international attention. Dr. Ma Jian, an alumnus of the School of National Security and Emergency Management at Beijing Normal University, has joined the Chinese Government's Earthquake Disaster Loss Assessment Team to carry out comprehensive disaster loss assessments in Myanmar.

Over 1,000 Hong Kong Secondary Students Explore Tech Frontiers and Intangible Heritage at BNU Zhuhai


From March 6th–15th, 2025, Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai) received nine groups of Hong Kong high school students participating as part of the “Citizenship and Social Development” Mainland Study Tour.  The delegations included 1,078 students and 118 teachers from nine secondary schools: Hong Kong United Christian College, Pui Ching Middle School, De La Salle Secondary School NT, Aberdeen Baptist Lui Ming Choi College, Po Kok Secondary School, Cumberland Presbyterian Church Yao Dao Secondary School, TWGHs Li Ka Shing College, Tung Chung Catholic School, and NLSI Peace Evangelical Secondary School. The event was hosted by the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government and organized by School of Continuing Education and Teacher Training at BNU Zhuhai.

BNU Zhuhai Representative Attends Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance Annual Meeting 2025


The  Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance Annual Meeting 2025 was held at Sun Yat-sen University, attended by nearly 100 participants including government representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region, as well as heads and principals from 45 member universities across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. The meeting aimed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation among higher education institutions in the Greater Bay Area and jointly promote the development of higher education. BNU Zhuhai Students Participate in Farming Culture Camp 2025


The Farming Culture Camp 2025 for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Students from Universities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), guided by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and co-organized by South China Agricultural University (SCAU) and the Guangdong Association of Higher Education Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese Student Affairs, officially commenced at SCAU. The Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of BNU Zhuhai organized five students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to participate in the activity. Over 140 students from 16 universities across the GBA gathered to engage in hands-on farming practices and cultural exchanges.

Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Faculty and Students Participate in Carbon Neutrality Science Outreach at BNU Zhuhai


The "Carbon Neutrality Science Outreach Zhuhai Exchange Program", funded by Bank of China (Hong Kong), recently kicked off at BNU Zhuhai. Now in its third year, the program facilitates knowledge sharing among university students from Hong Kong, Macao and BNU Zhuhai.

The School of Future Design (SFD) hosted the Achievements Exhibition of the 2024 National Arts Fund-Supported "Management Talent Training Program for Grassroots Art Museums and Institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area". The exhibition showcased diverse innovative outcomes from participants during the training period, covering spatial design, curatorial proposals, artworks, and commercial strategies. It highlighted both the participants’ in-depth exploration of integrating art with management practices and the unique strengths of SFD in training interdisciplinary talent.

Huitong College Faculty and Students Visit HKU 


In order to broaden academic horizons, stimulate innovative thinking and foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation between Beijing Normal University (BNU) and the University of Hong Kong(HKU), Huitong College organized a delegation of faculty and students to visit HKU for an exchange program. Prof. Tian Qingfeng and Prof. Zhang Zhiqiang from the School of Computing and Data Science of HKU, along with doctoral students, introduced the overview of the School, study and life conditions, and the taught master's program. The students had in-depth discussions with the professors regarding curriculum design, career prospects, etc., and gained a clearer understanding of the master's program at HKU, which provided important references for their future academic planning.

The study camp of Macau Baptist College, organized by Phoenix School and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cultural and Educational Exchange Center, was held at BNU Zhuhai. This activity centered on "Discovering Disciplinary Wonders, Experiencing Campus Culture". Thirty-three teachers and students from Macau Baptist College participated in the one-day academic study and campus tour activity.

Zhixing College and Henry Fok Cheng Hei College Jointly Explore Hengqin’s Development and Cultural Heritage


The Zhixing College of Beijing Normal University (BNU) and the Henry Fok Cheng Hei College of the University of Macau (UM) successfully conducted the second stop of the Zhixing-Cheng Hei Greater Bay Area Study Tour, which is also a research activity in the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. Focusing on the zone as a "pilot area," this event investigated the needs and innovations in cross-border community elderly care services and explored new pathways for cross-border community governance, providing references and support for deepening the coordinated development of community governance and people's livelihood services in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

BRS Holds Launch Ceremony for "Belt and Road" Research Initiative


Belt and Road School (BRS) hosted the launch ceremony for the "Belt and Road" Research Special Project. Wang Shoujun, Member of the University Council, Executive Vice President of Beijing Normal University (BNU), and Dean of BRS, attended the event and delivered a speech. Xu Jianping, former Director-General of the Department of Regional Opening at the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), was invited to give a keynote address and participated in discussions with officials and scholars from developing countries. Cai Hongbo, Vice Dean of BRS, Zhang Kunling, Secretary of Party Branch of BRS, and over 100 faculty members and students from the Beijing and Zhuhai campuses joined the event both online and offline. Inaugural Academic Lecture 2025 Held by Education Assessment Alliance of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao


The Education Assessment Alliance of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao hosted its 2025 inaugural academic lecture at BNU Zhuhai. Professor Andrew Martin from the School of Education at the University of New South Wales, Australia, delivered a keynote report titled "How Students Thrive in School Learning: Latest Research Based on the Academic Demands-Resources (AD-R) Theoretical Framework." The lecture was chaired by Professor Hou Jietai, Honorary Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Distinguished Professor of Beijing Normal University.

Jia Weijia, Wang Qingguo, and Wang Tian Selected for the 2025 Best Scientists List


Research.com released the 2025 ranking of world's top scientists, with several faculty members from the Institute of AI and Future Networks recognized. In the field of computer science, Jia Weijia ranked 2,350th globally and 252nd in China; Wang Tian ranked 2,826th globally and 304th in China. In electronic and electrical engineering, Jia Weijia ranked 1,339th globally and 197th in China; Wang Qingguo ranked 477th globally and 1st in South Africa; Wang Tian ranked 1,099th globally and 162th in China.

BNU SFD Showcased Works at China Fashion Week and Music-Tech Innovation Festival 2025


Two young teachers from BNU School of Future Design(SFD) showcased innovative cross-disciplinary works at two major domestic events, highlighting cutting-edge design explorations.  Xu Dongliang unveiled fashion inspired by the national intangible cultural heritage of Raojia Fengxiang dyeing at the 2025 China Fashion Week, redefining traditional fashion aesthetics through innovative design. Zhou Tiange innovatively blended digital technology with music at the 2025 Music-Tech Innovation Festival, showcasing the boundless possibilities of future sound art.

BNU Gravitational Wave Research Team Unveils Mystery of Neutron Star Initial Mass


The Gravitational Wave Research Team from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Advanced Institute of Natural Sciences at Beijing Normal University, in collaboration with the Australian Research Council's Center of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery(OzGrav)and other institutions, has achieved a major breakthrough in the study of neutron star initial mass. The findings were published in the international scientific journal Nature Astronomy in February.

International Center for Complex Systems Unravels Neural Circuitry Behind Sexual Dimorphic Behaviors in C. elegans via Network Science Analysis


A research team led by Dr. Liu He from the International Center for Complex Systems, Advanced Institute of Natural Sciences, and the Department of Systems Science, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Beijing Normal University, in collaboration with Dr. Yang Wenxing from the West China School of Basic Medical Sciences and Forensic Medicine, Sichuan University, and Professor Liu Qiang from the Department of Neuroscience, City University of Hong Kong, published a research paper titled "Dimorphic Neural Network Architecture Prioritizes Sexual-related Behaviors in Male C. Elegans" in the prestigious international journal eLife.

A comprehensive survey titled "Empowering Edge Intelligence: A Comprehensive Survey on On-Device AI Models", authored by Professor Jia Weijia’s research team from the Institute of AI and Future Networks, Beijing Normal University, has been accepted for publication in ACM Computing Surveys, a top-tier journal in computer science. A study titled "LRScheduler: A Layer-aware and Resource-adaptive Container Scheduler in Edge Computing", conducted by Tang Zhiqing, a member of Professor Jia Weijia’s research team at the Institute of AI and Future Networks, Beijing Normal University, has been accepted by the 20th International Conference on Mobility, Sensing and Networking (IEEE MSN 2024) and awarded the Best Paper Award at IEEE MSN 2024.

Institute of AI and Future Networks Develops Adaptive Ensemble Knowledge Distillation Framework


The paper titled "Enhancing Collaborative Inference on Heterogeneous Edge Devices via Adaptive Ensemble Knowledge Distillation",  by the AI and Future Networks Research Team at Beijing Normal University, has been accepted for publication in IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (JSAC), a top-tier international journal in computer science. The study proposes a novel framework to optimize collaborative inference efficiency across heterogeneous edge devices through adaptive knowledge distillation techniques.

Zhu Xingjiang’s Team Discovers First Candidate Pulsar in Open Cluster NGC 6791


A research team led by Research Fellow Zhu Xingjiang from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and the Gravitational Waves and Cosmology Laboratory at BNU, in collaboration with international astronomers, has successfully discovered a pulsar located in the direction of the ancient open cluster NGC 6791 using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The pulsar, designated as PSR J1922+37, rotates once every 1.9 seconds. This discovery marks a significant advancement in the study of open clusters. The findings were recently published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters (ApJL), with Dr. Liu Xiaojin from the Department of Physics as the first author and Research Fellow Zhu Xingjiang as the corresponding author.

Lin Liu and Sun Zemin Research Team Achieves Highly Selective Electrochemical Water Oxidation to Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂)


The research group led by Lin Liu and Sun Zemin from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Arts and Science, has achieved highly selective electrochemical water oxidation to hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) by modulating the micro-environment of metal cations. The findings were published in the international scientific journal ACS Catalysis.

Prof. Yang Xiaofan’s Team Makes Serial Progress in Microplastic-Regulated Mangrove Soil Carbon Cycle


Prof. Yang Xiaofan’s research team from the Guangdong Coastal-Zone Terrestrial-Aquatic Coupled System Field Scientific Observation and Research Station at BNU Zhuhai has published two consecutive research papers in the internationally renowned environmental and ecological journal-Journal of Hazardous Materials. The studies focus on the role of micro-plastics in regulating carbon cycling processes within mangrove soil ecosystems.

Zhu Shengxin's Team Publish Original Approximation Theory Paper in SCIENCE CHINA Mathematics


A research team led by Zhu Shengxin at Beijing Normal University's Research Center for Mathematics has published an original paper titled “Native spaces and generalization of Wu functions” in Science China Mathematics, a leading mathematics journal. Huitong College Student Publishes Paper in Seismological Research Letters


Under the guidance of Professor Li Yilong from BNU’s School of National Safety and Emergency Management, Li Xi, a 2022 undergraduate student majoring in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at Huitong College, conducted research on potential seismic scenarios, maximum earthquake magnitudes, and cascading rupture risks along the littoral fault zone of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The findings were published in the internationally renowned seismology journal Seismological Research Letters under the title “Rupture Dynamics of the Middle Section of Littoral Fault Zone: Potential Maximum Magnitude and Cascading Rupture Analysis”, with Li Xi as the first author.

Zhang Hua's Team Publishes Novel Landslide Hazard Risk Assessment Method in Scientific Reports


Zhang Hua’s team published a paper titled “Study on Landslide Hazard Risk in Wenzhou Based on Slope Units and Machine Learning Approaches” in Scientific Reports. The study introduced an efficient slope unit identification algorithm, mapping approximately 150,000 slope units in Wenzhou City, and evaluated landslide susceptibility and hazard risks using machine learning. The findings provide a foundational framework for regional landslide hazard risk management and disaster preparedness strategies.

A three-day cultural study tour to Xi’an, led by He Jiangkun, Deputy Dean of Phoenix School (PHS) at BNU Zhuhai, and faculty member Zhang Jingyi, concluded successfully. The delegation comprised 12 international students from diverse academic backgrounds, including the International Chinese Education Program of College of Education for the Future, MBA Program of Belt and Road School (BRS), and Women’s Leadership Program of School of Government. Centering on the theme "Exploring the Millennium-Old Capital, Unearthing Cultural Roots," the tour facilitated cross-cultural understanding through university exchanges, cultural site visits, and immersive experiences in intangible heritage celebrations, offering participants profound insights into China's historical legacy and contemporary development.
